Series
Group related books into series. Track reading order, plan future installments, and manage series-wide details like world-building and recurring characters.
What is a Series?
A series is a collection of books that share a common world, characters, or storyline. Series can be:
- Sequential — Books must be read in order (like a trilogy)
- Standalone — Each book works on its own but shares a world
- Companion — Related books that enhance each other
Tip
Series sell better than standalones in most genres. Readers who love book one will buy the rest. Series also make advertising more profitable since one reader can buy multiple books.

Series Fields
| Field | Description |

| Name | The series title (required) |
| Pen Name | Which author writes this series (required) |
| Description | Brief overview of the series |
| Genre | Primary genre (romance, thriller, fantasy, etc.) |
| Subgenre | More specific category |

Adding Books to a Series
When you create or edit a book, you can assign it to a series:
- Create or edit a book
- Find the Series field
- Select the series from the dropdown
- Set the Series Order (book 1, book 2, etc.)
- Save your changes
Note
A book can only belong to one series. If you have a crossover book, choose its primary series and mention the connection in the description.
Managing Reading Order
The series order number determines how books appear in lists and on retail platforms. You can:
- Use whole numbers for main series books (1, 2, 3)
- Use decimals for novellas or prequels (0.5, 1.5, 2.5)
- Leave order blank for companion books with no specific placement
Example Reading Order
| Book | Order | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Prequel Novella | 0.5 | Optional reading before book 1 |
| First Novel | 1 | Main series book |
| Second Novel | 2 | Main series book |
| Bonus Novella | 2.5 | Side story between books 2 and 3 |
| Third Novel | 3 | Main series book |

Shared Characters
Characters can appear in multiple books within a series. When you create a character, you can link them to:
- A single book only
- Multiple specific books
- The entire series (appears in all books)
This helps you track recurring characters and maintain consistency.
Planning Future Books
Use the Planned Books field to track how many books you intend to write. As you publish, the series page shows:
- Published books
- Books in progress
- Planned books not yet started
Series Tracking
The series overview gives you a bird's eye view of your entire saga. See where you are, what comes next, and how much work remains.
Best Practices
- Plan your series arc — Even for standalone-style series, know where you are heading.
- Use consistent branding — Series books should have recognizable cover designs.
- Write in order — Publishing book 2 before book 1 confuses readers and algorithms.
- Keep a series bible — Document world details to maintain consistency across books.
- Mark series complete — Update status when you finish to help with reporting and filtering.
