Common Issues

Quick solutions to frequently encountered problems. Most issues can be resolved in a few minutes with these steps.

Before You Start

Many issues can be resolved with these basic steps:

  1. Refresh the page (press F5 or Cmd+R)
  2. Clear your browser cache
  3. Try a different browser
  4. Check your internet connection
  5. Log out and log back in

Login Issues

Magic Link Not Arriving

  • Check your spam or junk folder
  • Wait a few minutes (links can take up to 5 minutes)
  • Make sure you entered the correct email
  • Try requesting a new link
  • Add [email protected] to your contacts

Magic Link Expired

Magic links expire after 1 hour. If yours has expired:

  1. Go to the login page
  2. Enter your email again
  3. Request a new magic link
  4. Use the new link within 1 hour

Cannot Log In

  • Make sure you are using the same email you signed up with
  • Check that your browser accepts cookies
  • Disable browser extensions that might block scripts
  • Try a private/incognito window

Airtable Issues

Data Not Loading

  • Check your internet connection
  • Verify your Airtable token has not expired
  • Go to Settings and test the Airtable connection
  • Regenerate your Airtable token if needed

Changes Not Saving

  • Wait a moment and try again
  • Check for error messages at the bottom of the screen
  • Make sure required fields are filled
  • Refresh the page and try again

Missing Tables or Fields

If tables or fields are missing in your Airtable base:

  1. Go to Settings and check the Airtable connection
  2. Run the schema validation tool
  3. Let StorytellerOS recreate missing tables

Do Not Rename Airtable Tables

StorytellerOS relies on specific table and field names. Renaming them in Airtable will cause the app to stop working properly.

Writing Interface Issues

Content Not Auto-Saving

  • Check the save indicator in the corner
  • Press Cmd/Ctrl+S to manually save
  • Check your internet connection
  • Copy your content as a backup

Formatting Lost

  • Use the formatting toolbar for bold, italic, etc.
  • Keyboard shortcuts: Cmd/Ctrl+B for bold, Cmd/Ctrl+I for italic
  • When pasting from Word, use Paste as Plain Text (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+V)

Word Count Wrong

  • Refresh the page to recalculate
  • Word count excludes chapter titles and scene breaks
  • Word count may differ slightly from other programs

Social Posts Issues

Post Failed to Publish

  • Check if your social account is still connected
  • The account token may have expired
  • Reconnect the account in Settings
  • Check if the post content violates platform rules

Wrong Time Posted

  • Verify your timezone in Settings
  • Times are shown in your local timezone
  • Double-check AM vs PM when scheduling

Image Not Uploading

  • Images must be under 5MB
  • Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP
  • Try a smaller image size
  • Check file is not corrupted

Email Marketing Issues

Campaign Not Sending

  • Check your FluentCRM connection
  • Verify recipients are not empty
  • Check FluentCRM dashboard for errors
  • Make sure your WordPress site is accessible

Low Open Rates

  • This is not a technical issue but a content one
  • Try different subject lines
  • Send at different times
  • Review your list for inactive subscribers

Sales Data Issues

Sales Not Syncing

  • Check your Direct2Readers connection
  • Sales may take up to 24 hours to appear
  • Manual sync option in Settings

Missing Transactions

  • Filter by date range to find transactions
  • Check if transaction is under a different pen name
  • Some sales may be pending verification

AI Features Issues

AI Not Working

  • Check your API key is entered correctly
  • Verify your OpenAI/Anthropic account has credit
  • Test the connection in Settings
  • Rate limits may temporarily block requests

AI Generating Poor Results

  • Provide more context in your prompt
  • Be specific about what you want
  • Try a different AI model if available
  • AI output may need editing

Tip

AI features are optional. If you are having persistent issues, you can disable them in Settings and use StorytellerOS without AI assistance.

Performance Issues

App Running Slowly

  • Close other browser tabs
  • Clear browser cache
  • Try a different browser
  • Check your internet speed
  • Large manuscripts may take longer to load

Pages Not Loading

  • Refresh the page
  • Check if StorytellerOS is down (rare)
  • Try again in a few minutes
  • Clear cookies and cache

Browser-Specific Issues

Recommended Browsers

StorytellerOS works best with:

  • Google Chrome (recommended)
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Safari (may have some limitations)

Known Browser Issues

  • Safari: Some drag-and-drop features may not work
  • IE/Edge Legacy: Not supported, use Edge Chromium
  • Mobile browsers: Limited functionality, desktop recommended
